Why do we choose a potato and not any other vegetable for this "experiment"?
I am doing a science fair project and I have this doubt. My hypothesis was: the potato has some specific properties that may create ions that with the metal creates energy.
The experiment you are referring to is how to make a potato battery.
The potatoes have the capacity to conduct energy. Actually, you can use other vegetables and fruits, like: a lemon, a tomato, or even an orange to make a battery too. Try it!
Why choose a potato?
Is probably because potatoes are less acid than lemons or any citric fruit, which means that the potato battery is supposed to last longer.
Tip: Recreate the experiment with something aside from the potato, as indicated above, and make a table to compare the different results.
