The Best Potato Salad Recipe

The best potato salad recipe is mostly used in holidays to share with the family. The taste of this classic salad is really delicious, and it tastes much better if served with chicken or some baked turkey as a side dish.

It is a simple recipe that anybody can cook. You can use some chopped red bell peppers instead of carrots for a more traditional taste. It’s recommended to prepare it the day before.

Ingredients:

  • 6 Russet potatoes
  • 1/2 red apple (chopped)
  • 1/4 onion (chopped)
  • 1/4 cup sweet red bell pepper (chopped) or 1 tbsp shredded carrot
  • 6 tbsp regular mayonnaise (or vegan mayonnaise)
  • salt and sugar (to taste)

Directions:

1- Wash the potatoes thoroughly, dry them with a small kitchen towel so that they don’t slip.

2- Peel the potatoes, make sure that they don’t have any green spots on them. Dispose any green or black potato.

3- In a medium saucepan add the potatoes and water until they are covered and some salt.

4- Boil them at medium temperature (4) for about 45 minutes or until they are tender to the fork; turning them occasionally.

5- Put the potatoes on a glass container.

6- While the potatoes are still hot, carefully cut them in the smallest pieces possible.

7- Wait for the potatoes to cool down to continue preparing your best potato salad recipe.

8- Now add the mayonnaise, salt and sugar

9- Use a salad spatula (without holes) and mix everything until the texture is smooth.

10- Add the chopped onion, apple and stir a bit.

11- Sprinkle the sweet bell peppers (or shredded carrot) all over the potatoes and mix everything.

12- After everything is mixed, press the potatoes with the spatula.

13- Cover and refrigerate overnight to let the flavors combine well. Since the potato salad is basically compacted it will taste quite different after some hours in refrigeration than preparing and eating it on a short period of time.

Tip:

Use it as a side dish for the next day. Salads usually taste even better the next day. If you decide to prepare it for the same day, it’s recommended to refrigerate the salad at least four (4) hours before serving. And remember, don’t let the salad at room temperature for more than an hour.
