Basic Potato Dumplings

The basic potato dumplings recipe needs just a few ingredients that are very easy to find at home.

For this recipe you will need boiled potatoes, flour and some salt to taste. You can eat them alone or with your favorite dip or sauce. Also, you can cook them in boiling water or fried.

Here is the recipe below:

Preparation Time :  25 minutes

Cooking Time :      10 to 20 minutes

   6 servings

Ingredients:

2 1/4 lb     potatoes (without skin)
 10  oz   white flour
Salt (to taste)

  • First, boil potatoes (without skin) in salted water for about 15 to 20 minutes. Then, mash the potatoes and then mix them with flour and a little bit of salt.

  • Important : Do not add too much flour to the dough because this will cause the dumplings to be hard. And if you add too much potato, they will disintegrate as soon as you place them in the saucepan. Try to keep a balance : not too much flour and not too much potato mix.

  • Next, you should let the dough rest for about 10 minutes.
Then, just take a small amount of dough and press them gently with the palm of your hands.

  • You can cook dumplings in two ways: boiled or fried. You can cook them in plenty of salted boiling water. When dumplings begin to float to the surface, this means that they are cooked. Remove carefully from the saucepan and add your favorite sauce or dressing.

  • Also, if you want, you can fry the dumplings in the saucepan instead of cooking them in salted water.  Just add enough oil to the saucepan. Fry them for about 5 minutes (each side) on medium heat until they are brown and crispy. Of course, cooking them in water is healthier, but they taste better when fried :)

Enjoy!
