As most people would agree sweet potatoes provide a distinct flavor that enhance any culinary experience. The following recipe known as fried sweet potatoes will open your eyes to new cooking possibilities. It is a bit hard to believe that such a straightforward to make dish can taste so scrumptious.

Preparation Time: 7 minutes

Cooking Time: around 35 minutes

Servings: 3

Ingredients:

  • 3 medium sweet potatoes
  • 2 tbsp butter (or natural butter spread)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • cinnamon (to taste)
  • nutmeg (to taste)

Directions:

  1. The first step is to wash the sweet potatoes; then you can proceed to peel them.

  2. Next, grab a fairly big pot of water and heat it until it boils. Once the water is boiling add the sweet potatoes to the pot.

  3. As soon as they become tender (in around 25 minutes); take them out of the water and cut them in slices. Each one of them should have a thickness of around 1/4 inch.

  4. Take out a large skillet; add the olive oil and the two tablespoons of butter. Use medium heat to melt the butter and add two tablespoons of brown sugar into the mix while stirring. Once all the sugar has been dissolved is time to put the slices into the frying pan; cover it and wait for 5 minutes.

  5. Uncover the pan and check if they have a golden brown color and soft texture. Most likely they will have it; if they don’t, wait a few more minutes until the sweet potatoes are ready.

  6. Once they have the light golden brown color, flip them over with a spatula, cover again and wait another 5 minutes for the other side to be done. Keep a very close eye on the sweet potatoes as you fry them.

  7. When both sides of the fried sweet potatoes are cooked, sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg to taste.
