Crockpot Potatoes from Scratch

by Luise
(Michigan)

I would like to make scalloped potatoes in the crock pot but I don't want to use any canned soups as the base. Do you have a recipe that is totally from scratch? Thanks.

Answer:

Hi Luise,

Many people use canned soups when cooking scalloped potatoes in a crock pot because it's easier and saves a lot of time.

But here is a recipe to cook tasty scalloped potatoes in the crock pot... and don't worry, this recipe doesn't need any canned soup.

Homemade Scalloped Potatoes

- 6 to 8 potatoes (peeled and thinly sliced)
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup water
- 1 onion (peeled and thinly sliced)
- 1 cup ham (cut into cubes, optional)
- 1 cup grated cheddar cheese (optional)
- salt and pepper to taste

Procedure :

1) Cook potatoes in boiling water for about 15 minutes.

* You can skip this step and add the potato slices directly into the crock pot, but you will have to cook potatoes for 6 hours on high instead of 4 hours.

2) When ready, drain and put half of the sliced potatoes in the crock pot.

3) Add 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup ham, 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 cup water, 1/2 onion, salt, and pepper over the layer of sliced potatoes.

4) Add the rest of the sliced potatoes. Then, add the rest of the remaining ingredients in the same order.

5) Cover and cook on high for about 4 hours or cook on low for about 6 to 8 hours.

Enjoy !
