Creamy Scalloped Potatoes



Creamy scalloped potatoes are quite enjoyable. This recipe is not only enticing but also very quick to prepare. As you look at the instructions you will notice that it takes about 15 minutes to prepare and about 35 additional minutes for it to be ready. The cooking time is fairly short especially for a dish that is cooked in a traditional oven. It can be a great problem solver if you want to make a homemade meal but do not have hours to prepare a long recipe.

The creation process of the recipe only requires a few ingredients. They are butter, milk, flour, salt, pepper, and of course, some potatoes. All of them are essential for the success of the dish; check if they are already in the kitchen.

Ingredients:

  • 6 red potatoes
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all purpose flour
  • salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 1/4 chopped onion
  • 2 1/2 cup of milk

Creamy scalloped potatoes


Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (177°C). Grease the bottom and side of a deep casserole.

  2. Rinse potatoes under running water. Then, peel the potatoes.

  4. Cut them into 1/8 inch slices.

  5. In a separate saucepan, melt 3 tablespoons of butter over low to medium heat. Add the onion and cook for 2 minutes until tender.

  6. Stir in flour with the salt and pepper as well. Stirring constantly, cook until the sauce begins to boil. Then, remove the saucepan from heat.

  7. Next, stir in milk, bring to boil and keep stirring constantly. (For about 1 minute).

  8. Put the potatoes into a casserole. Add the sauce to cover the potatoes. Add 1 tablespoon of butter.

  9. Finally, cover and bake for about 35 minutes, until potatoes are soft and tender. Wait about 5 minutes before serving.


The potatoes as usual are the foundation of the recipe; the red type is ideal for this specific dish due to its firm texture (it has little starch content). Since creamy scalloped potatoes are the dish to be prepared, the potatoes have to be peeled and cut in several thin slices. Aside from the potatoes you need other ingredients such as the flour and the milk, to produce the desired creamy consistency.

The flavor of the food is very important as well, which is why the chopped onion with the salt and pepper are added to the recipe. As you sprinkle the seasoning over the potatoes pay attention to not over do it.
